Rallye de Paris 2004
Rallye de Paris 2004

It was great to get an email and photographs from Donald Duncan, the son of John Duncan, who owned VPL441 from 2003 to 2006.

John Duncan was a serious AC owner who had several AC Aces and Acecas. During his ownership of VPL441 he had the suspension tightened and some other minor adjustments done so that he could compete the car in the Rallye de Paris. There is no record of how well John Duncan did in the Rallye but it is known that he and the car finished in one piece.

At this time VPL 441 was in its black livery with a red leather interior. Apart from the suspension being tightened not much else was done to the car during Mr Duncan’s time. The engine was not adjusted and the electrics were still the same as in 1985, during the Nickless era. At this time the fuel tank was still the original and didn’t have much capacity. Mr John Duncan did very well to complete the Rallye de Paris in 2004. I just hope Mr Duncan found time to enjoy a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
